Cabling Services
At CEC, we understand that trenching and cable installation are critical infrastructure activities that require precise planning, competent design, and reliable execution. Our team delivers fully integrated solutions—from initial assessment through to installation, termination, and commissioning thereby ensuring every cable system performs as a safe, durable, and efficient transmission medium.
Trenching & Installation Expertise
CEC provides complete trenching solutions tailored to project scope, site conditions, and regulatory requirements. We design and construct channels for all cable types using the most appropriate installation method, whether direct burial, conduit systems, or specialised drilling techniques. Our capabilities include: • Horizontal and directional drilling, • Cable ploughing, • Jet trenching and micro-trenching, • Rock trenching and hydro-excavation, • Deployment of specialised mechanical and excavation equipment, • Trench backfilling, compaction, and reinstatement. We assess environmental, geotechnical, and load conditions to ensure cables are protected from water ingress, mechanical stress, soil movement, and external interference.
Cable Types We Install
Power Cables • Low Voltage (LV) – up to 1 kV, • High Voltage (HV) – 11 kV, 33 kV, 66 kV, 132 kV distribution networks, • Armored Cables – designed for direct burial applications, • Earth/Ground Cables – transformers, switchgear, pole-mounted equipment, • AC & DC Substation Cabling – including 400 V and 230 V AC, and 110 V/48 V DC for control and protection systems.Telecommunications & Data Cables • Fibre Optics – precision handling and protection for high-reliability networks, • NBN / Data Infrastructure – compliant installation for broadband and communication networks, • Audio Visual – underground solutions for commercial and specialised systems.
Key Installation Considerations Our installation methodology is designed to maintain system performance, longevity, and compliance. We ensure: • Appropriate physical protection, including direct bury or conduit systems, • Use of cable trays, ducts, pits, and cable trenches where required, • Protection against water, mechanical loads, and vermin, • Selection of trenching equipment suitable to ground conditions, • Compliance to Safety Standards, Australian Standards, and industry best practices including benching and bedding requirements and placement and compaction testing. • Adherence to mandatory pre-excavation requirements including “Before You Dig” service checks to protect existing underground infrastructure. Cable Sizing & Technical Compliance Correct cable sizing is essential to ensure system safety, capacity, and long-term reliability. CEC performs all cable sizing and selection in accordance with AS/NZS 3008.1, taking into consideration: • Current-carrying capacity, • Voltage drop, • Short-circuit performance, • Soil resistivity and ambient temperatures, • Burial depth and installation method, • Number of cables and derating factors. Our team ensures every installation is fit-for-purpose, compliant, and designed for optimal performance in real-world operating conditions. Other Factors Trenching, Cable Separation for Cable Installation for types of service • Trenches and sand bedding requirement as per AS/NZS 3000,• Separate conduits and pipes selection for the following categories of service: - LV / HV power cable, - Instrumentation and Control cables, - Communications, telephone and fibre optic cables Service requirements.• Cable Protection, cable route marking, backfilling and reinstatement as per AS/NZS 3000
